Speedy Italian Sausage Pasta Skillet
A one-pan pasta dish with Italian sausage, rich tomato sauce, and your favorite veggies, finished with fresh basil, perfect for a quick Italian dinner.
Ingredients
- 300 g (sweet or hot, casings removed) Italian Sausage
- 300 g (penne or rotini) Imported Dry Pasta
- 500 ml Passata
- 1 can (drained) Mushrooms Pieces & Stems
- 1/2 medium (diced) Onion
- 2 cloves (minced) Garlic
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 1/2 tsp Dried Oregano
- 1/4 tsp (optional) Red Pepper Flakes
- 1/4 cup (chopped, for garnish) Fresh Basil
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add Italian sausage (casings removed) and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned.
- Add diced onion and minced garlic, cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
- Stir in tomato passata, drained canned mushrooms, dried oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a simmer, then add the pasta. Add about 2 cups of water, ensuring the pasta is mostly submerged.
- Cover and cook until pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed, about 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- If the sauce is too thick, add a little more water. If it's too thin, cook uncovered for a few more minutes.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
