Sausage and Peppers Pasta (Italian)
A flavorful Italian-inspired pasta dish with Italian sausage, bell peppers, and a tomato-based sauce.
Ingredients
- 300 g Penne Pasta
- 400 g (sweet or spicy) Italian Sausage
- 1, sliced Red Bell Pepper
- 1, sliced Yellow Bell Pepper
- 1/2, sliced Yellow Onion
- 1 (680 mL) jar Pasta Sauce
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 3 cloves, minced Garlic
- 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
- 1/4 cup, chopped Fresh Basil
- To taste Salt and Black Pepper
Instructions
- Cook penne pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water before draining.
- While pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Remove sausage from casings (if using) and crumble into the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking up the sausage with a spoon.
- Add sliced yellow onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add sliced red and yellow bell peppers and cook until tender-crisp, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and Italian seasoning. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Pour pasta sauce over the sausage and vegetables. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add drained pasta to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water as needed to adjust consistency.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Stir in fresh basil and serve immediately.
