Pouding Chômeur (Canadian)
A classic Canadian dessert featuring a simple cake soaked in a rich maple syrup sauce, a comforting and sweet treat.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Flour
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/2 cup Salad Dressing
- 1/2 cup Milk
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 cup Water
- 1/2 cup Maple Syrup
- 2 tbsp Butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream together butter and sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
- Beat in egg, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter evenly into a greased 8x8 inch baking dish.
- In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, water, maple syrup, and butter.
- Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Carefully pour the hot sauce evenly over the cake batter in the baking dish.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Spoon the cake into bowls and drizzle generously with the remaining maple syrup sauce from the baking dish. Serve warm.
