  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour (or line with parchment paper) an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, combine melted butter and brown sugar. Beat in egg, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Stir in chopped walnuts.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs. Be careful not to overbake.
  7. Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
