Maple Butter Tartlets (Canadian)
Miniature butter tarts with a rich, deeply flavored maple filling, a Canadian classic.
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups All-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup, cold, cubed Natrel Salted Lactose Free Butter
- 5-7 tbsp Iced water
- 0.75 cup Pancake Mix
- 0.5 cup Maple Syrup
- 1 large Egg
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
- 1 Pinch of salt
- 1/2 tsp Butterscotch extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water, mixing until the dough just comes together.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough and cut into circles to fit mini muffin tins.
- In a separate bowl, combine pancake mix, maple syrup, egg, vanilla extract, and butterscotch extract.
- Fill each tart shell with the maple mixture, being careful not to overfill.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and the filling is set. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.
- Let cool completely in the muffin tin before serving.
