Korean Braised Potatoes and Carrots (Gamja Jorim)
A flavorful and slightly sweet Korean side dish featuring braised potatoes and carrots in a soy-based sauce.
Ingredients
- 3 medium (waxy potatoes like Yukon Gold or red potatoes) Potatoes
- 1 large Carrots
- 3 tbsp (low sodium) Tamari
- 1 tbsp Honey
- 1 tsp Sesame oil
- 1 clove, minced Garlic
- 1/2 cup Water
- For garnish Sesame seeds (optional)
- 1/4 tsp (optional, for a hint of spice) Masala Noodles
Instructions
- Peel and cut the potatoes and carrots into bite-sized, even pieces. Aim for about 1/2 inch thick.
- In a skillet, combine the potatoes, carrots, tamari, honey, sesame oil, garlic, masala noodles and water.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes and carrots are tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking and prevent burning.
- Once the sauce has thickened and glazed the vegetables, remove from heat.
- Garnish with sesame seeds, if desired.
- Serve warm as a side dish with rice and other Korean dishes.
