Italian Tomato Pasta
Simple and flavorful Italian tomato pasta with herbs, garlic, and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
Ingredients
- 300g Pasta (Spaghetti or Linguine)
- 1 can (400g) Crushed Tomatoes
- 4 tbsp Olive Oil (Extra Virgin)
- 4 cloves, minced Garlic
- 1 tbsp Dried Basil
- 1 tbsp Dried Oregano
- 75g, grated Parmesan Cheese
- Pinch (optional) Red Pepper Flakes
- 2 tbsp, chopped (for garnish) Fresh Parsley
- To taste Salt and Pepper
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
- While pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add crushed tomatoes, dried basil, and dried oregano. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to partially blend the sauce.
- Drain pasta and add it to the pan with the tomato sauce. Toss to combine. Add some of the reserved pasta water if needed to achieve desired consistency.
- Serve immediately, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley.
