Homestyle Canadian Apple and Cinnamon Oats
Creamy, slow-simmered oats with caramelized apples, a hint of vanilla, and warm cinnamon spices.
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups Rolled Oats
- 2 cups Whole Milk
- 1 cup Water
- 1 large Red Apple, finely diced
- 0.75 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 3 tbsp Maple Syrup
- 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter
- 0.5 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 pinch Kosher Salt
Instructions
- In a small skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. Sauté for 5 minutes until soft and lightly caramelized.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, water, and salt. Bring to a gentle boil.
- Stir in the oats and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently to release the starches and create a creamy texture.
- Stir in the sautéed apples, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and the remaining maple syrup.
- Remove from heat and let sit for 2 minutes before serving. For the toddler, ensure the oats are at a safe temperature and apples are soft enough to mash with a spoon.
