Creamy Tomato Pasta with Italian Sausage

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. While pasta is cooking, remove sausage from casing and cook in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned.
  3. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  4. Stir in the pasta sauce and garlic powder. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Stir in butter and heavy cream. Simmer for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Add cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat. Add some of the reserved pasta water if the sauce is too thick.
  7. Stir in fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.
