Classic Spaghetti and Meatballs with Garlic Bread
A comforting Italian classic with homemade meatballs simmered in a rich tomato sauce with fresh herbs, served over spaghetti with garlic bread on the side.
Ingredients
- 300 g Spaghetti
- 2 cans (680 mL each) Tomato Sauce
- 500 g Ground Chicken
- 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
- 1 large Egg
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 0.5 cup Onion, finely diced
- 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
- 2 tbsp Fresh Basil, chopped
- 0.33 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated
- to taste Table Salt
- to taste Black Pepper
- 6 slices White Bread
- 0.25 cup Butter, softened
- 0.5 tsp Garlic Powder
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, finely diced onion, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and parmesan cheese.
- Mix well and form into small meatballs.
- In a large pot, brown meatballs over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add tomato sauce and fresh basil to the pot. Bring to a simmer and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package directions.
- While spaghetti is cooking, prepare garlic bread: Mix softened butter with garlic powder. Spread on bread slices and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve meatballs and sauce over spaghetti. Garnish with extra parmesan cheese, if desired. Serve with garlic bread on the side.
