Cheesy Black Bean Burgers
A simple vegetarian burger made with black beans and spices, topped with cheese and served on budget-friendly buns.
Ingredients
- 2 cans (540 mL each), drained and rinsed Black Beans
- 3 buns Hamburger Buns
- 3 slices Cheese Slices
- 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup, finely chopped Onion
- 1 tsp Chili Powder
- 1/2 tsp Cumin
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/4 tsp Smoked Paprika
- To taste Salt and Black Pepper
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mash black beans with a fork or potato masher, leaving some beans slightly chunky for texture.
- Add breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper to the mashed beans. Mix well to combine. If the mixture seems too wet, add more breadcrumbs, a tablespoon at a time.
- Form the mixture into 3 patties, ensuring they are firmly packed. You can refrigerate the patties for about 15-20 minutes to help them hold their shape better.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Cook patties for about 5-7 minutes per side, until browned and heated through. Be careful when flipping them, as they can be delicate.
- In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt.
- Serve on hamburger buns with your favorite toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, and avocado.
