  1. Thoroughly drain and rinse canned black beans. This reduces excess moisture.
  2. Mash black beans in a bowl, leaving some whole for texture.
  3. Add cooked brown rice, finely chopped red onion, chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika.
  4. Mix well until ingredients are evenly distributed. The mixture should hold together when pressed.
  5. Form the mixture into a patty. If the mixture is too wet, add a tablespoon of gluten-free breadcrumbs or oat flour.
  6. Cook patty in a non-stick pan over medium heat with a little olive oil, approximately 5-7 minutes per side, until heated through and slightly crispy.
  7. Serve on a gluten-free bun with lettuce, tomato, avocado, and salsa.
  8. Optionally, toast the gluten-free bun for better texture.
