French Ground Beef Shepherd's Pie with Cauliflower Mash
A protein rich twist on Shepherd's Pie with a cauliflower mash topping, infused with French flavors.
Ingredients
- 500g Ground Beef
- 1 medium head Cauliflower
- 1 medium Onion
- 2 medium Carrots
- 2 stalks Celery
- 2 cloves Garlic
- 1 cup Beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon Dried thyme
- 1 Bay leaf
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 1/4 cup Milk or cream
- to taste Salt
- to taste Black pepper
- Pinch Nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Chop onion, carrots, and celery. Mince garlic.
- Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Add onion, carrots, and celery to the skillet and cook until softened.
- Stir in garlic, tomato paste, thyme, bay leaf, beef broth, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- While the meat mixture simmers, steam or boil cauliflower until tender.
- Drain cauliflower and mash with butter and milk or cream. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg to taste.
- Pour the meat mixture into a baking dish.
- Spread the mashed cauliflower evenly over the meat mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cauliflower topping is golden brown.
- Remove bay leaf before serving.
