  1. Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.
  2. Place three bread slices, butter-side down, in a cold pan.
  3. Top each slice with cheddar cheese slices.
  4. Place remaining bread slices on top of the cheese.
  5. Turn burner on to medium-low heat.
  6. Cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey, about 4-6 minutes per side, flipping carefully.
  7. While the grilled cheese sandwiches are cooking, heat tomato soup in a separate pot until warm, stirring occasionally.
  8. Serve the grilled cheese sandwiches immediately with the warm tomato soup.
