Instructions

  1. Mash about half of the black beans in a bowl using a fork or potato masher. Leave the other half relatively whole.
  2. Add cooked rice, oats, red onion, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Mix well until thoroughly combined. Add a squeeze of lime juice.
  4. Form mixture into a patty. Make sure it is firm enough to hold its shape; add more oats if needed.
  5. Cook the patty on a skillet or grill over medium heat, until heated through and nicely browned, about 6-8 minutes per side. You can also bake at 375F for 20-25 minutes.
  6. Serve on a gluten-free bun or lettuce wraps with your favorite toppings.
