Thai Basil Beef Stir-Fry (Low-Sodium, Enhanced)
An intensely flavored Thai stir-fry with beef, basil, and vegetables, carefully balanced for low-sodium.
Ingredients
- 1 lb, thinly sliced against the grain Beef sirloin
- 2 medium, thinly sliced Green Bell Peppers
- 4 cloves, minced Garlic
- 1 tbsp, grated Ginger
- 1 cup, loosely packed Fresh Thai basil leaves
- 1/4 - 1/2 tsp (optional, adjust to taste) Red pepper flakes
- 2 tbsp Low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp Rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp Sesame oil
- 1 tsp (or to taste) Stevia
- 2 cup Broccoli florets
- 1/2 tsp (optional, use sparingly) Fish sauce
Instructions
- Slice beef thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness. This is important to preserve the beef quality
- In a bowl, whisk together low-sodium soy sauce, rice vinegar, stevia, sesame oil, and fish sauce (if using).
- Heat a large wok or heavy skillet over high heat. Add half of the beef and stir-fry quickly until browned on all sides, about 2-3 minutes. Remove beef from the wok and set aside. Repeat with the remaining beef.
- Add garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the wok and stir-fry for 15-20 seconds until very fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add the sliced bell peppers and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened. Add broccoli florets and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened
- Return all of the beef to the wok. Pour the soy sauce mixture over the beef and vegetables. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce has thickened slightly and coats the beef and vegetables, about 1-2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and immediately stir in the fresh Thai basil leaves. The residual heat will wilt the basil and release its aroma.
- Serve immediately.
