High-Protein Italian Sausage and Pepper Frittata
Ingredients
- 250g Sausages
- 6 large Eggs
- 1 large, sliced Bell peppers (red, yellow, or orange)
- 1/2 medium, sliced Onion
- 1/2 cup Shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- To taste Salt
- To taste Black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
- 2 tablespoons, chopped Fresh basil
- 1/4 teaspoon (optional) Red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Ensure the oven is fully preheated for even cooking.
- Remove sausage from packaging and slice it. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté sliced sausage, bell peppers, and onion until sausage is browned and vegetables are tender. Add red pepper flakes, if using, for a touch of heat. Ensure sausage reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for food safety.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Add shredded mozzarella cheese and chopped fresh basil. Fresh basil adds a bright, aromatic element. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
- Pour the egg mixture over the sausage and vegetable mixture in the skillet. Make sure ingredients are evenly distributed. Gently stir to combine.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the frittata is set and golden brown. The center should be firm, not jiggly.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly before slicing and serving. This allows the frittata to firm up, making it easier to slice. Garnish with additional fresh basil, if desired.
- Serve warm with a side salad dressed with balsamic vinaigrette. A simple green salad complements the richness of the frittata.
