Italian Turkey Meatball Skewers with Marinara Dip
Ingredients
- 156g Turkey Flakes
- 600 ml Pasta Sauce
- 1 lb Ground turkey
- 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup, grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large Egg
- 2 cloves, minced Garlic
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- To taste Salt
- To taste Black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Olive oil
- As needed Wooden skewers
- 1/4 cup, chopped Fresh basil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, turkey flakes, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper and fresh chopped basil.
- Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Ensure the mixture is not too wet; add more breadcrumbs if necessary. Use wet hands to prevent sticking and ensure even mixing. Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Thread the meatballs onto wooden skewers, leaving a small space between each meatball. Ensure skewers have been soaked in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning. Arrange the skewers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the meatballs with olive oil. Brushing with olive oil helps the meatballs brown evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and lightly browned. Rotate the skewers halfway through for even cooking. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) for food safety.
- While the meatballs are baking, heat the pasta sauce in a saucepan over medium heat. Simmer gently, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and scorching.
- Remove the meatball skewers from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve the skewers warm with the pasta sauce as a dip. Garnish with extra fresh basil or Parmesan cheese for added flavor.
- Serve warm with a side of marinara sauce for dipping, and a sprinkle of fresh parsley or basil for garnish.
